I became an accredited appraiser in 2014 through the Canadian Personal Property and Appraisers Group, examined on the use of uniform standards of professional appraisal practices and bound to a professional code of ethics. Even before becoming an accredited appraiser, I became a published price guide advisor to the Official Overstreet Price Guide and Hippycomix Price Guide, as well as a special advisor to GPAnalysis on Underground Comix. During my time as an appraiser, I have been very fortunate to have worked alongside many amazing people. I have worked with numerous professionals such as lawyers and insurers, however it was the people who I have met during milestone moments in their collecting journey, who trusted me to handle the important assignment of valuing their life's works in amassing their incredible collections - these are the assignments that have left an indelible impression on me. These are people who had gone through the entire lifecycle of being passionate and dedicated collectors, and the lessons imparted on me through these experiences cannot be taught through books or pedagogy. My exposure to working with both small and large collections, heirlooms that meant the world to those they were bequeathed to, and/or collections destined for institutional settings such as galleries and museums have further honed my research and knowledge skillset to help shape me into the appraiser I am today. As I often tell people, I became an accredited appraiser because as a collector myself, I saw a need for greater awareness, remedies and safeguards to protect our personal collections. My commitment to ToyVerify is a continuation of this pursuit and I hope to be able to be given an opportunity to work with you in the very near future.
